KidsFest


Cambridge Carnival KidsFest is a hands-on interactive activity zone for children of all ages. Join us for stilt walking demos, story telling, face painting, balloon art, and arts and crafts activities. Most of the activities are free. The 2011 Cambridge Carnival KidsFest was brought to you by Boston Medical Center Healthnet and Radio Disney. Stay tuned for updates for 2012 Carnival.


Come rock out in the KidsFest area with the Radio Disney Road Crew all day for music, dancing, games, and free prizes…You don’t want to miss this event!

 

Program

Arts and Crafts: 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Enjoy beading, coloring, games, foam art, making hats, and more!

Wiggles Press: 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

This publishing house, which produces multicultural books for young readers, will offer an array of activities for children at the 2011 Cambridge Carnival. See more at www.wigglespressbooks.com.

  • The Tales of Teacups author Rochelle O’Neal Thorpe will introduce families to a journey to Asia and Africa with stories about tea and origami activities; also learn how to write your name in Chinese or Japanese
  • Come learn about children’s games in Haitian culture with Paul Rodhe, author of Presents for Phoebe, about a little French girl who discovers a charitable heart and gives to Haitian children living in an orphanage; posters and the book will be on sale to benefit Haitian relief efforts
  • Celestine L. Payne, author of There’s A Tarantula in My Pajamas, will show you how to make your own tarantula
  • Join Melinda Lancaster, author of Grandma, Tell Me If You Can, in painting seashells and learning about the wonders of the ocean
  • Grandma’s Chocolate Cake, by Kimberly Wallace, is Wiggles Press’ newest story about a very special cake and a lesson learned; meet Kimberly and enjoy coloring and creating recipes
  • Flowers, by Cynthia Davis, is about wild flowers meeting beauty roses for a “Garden Show Competition” – join Cynthia in making Spanish paper flowers and origami flowers
  • Native American artist Robert Peters will be available to speak about his culture and experience with native folklore and dreams
  • Books will be available for sale and coloring sheets as well as other freebies available

Angela Owens: 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Angela will be returning to the Cambridge Carnival this year to offer face painting.

OPENAIR Circus: 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

The OPENAIR Circus is a non-profit circus offering summer classes for children, as well as workshops and performance opportunities to people of all ages. They will be teaching young and old to stilt at the Cambridge Carnival in the kids corner. See more at www.openaircircus.org.

Villari’s Self-Defense Centers: 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Villari’s Self-Defense will again offer martial arts demonstrations during KidsFest. See more at http://villarisomerville.com.

Etsko: 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Performer Etsuko Downing, known as Etsko, will again offer balloon creations and face painting.

WERS 88.9FM: 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

WERS 88.9FM will be working with be offer a mask making activity in the spirit of the carnival!
