This year's Carnival theme is The Cultural Revolution Starts Here and Never Ends. In 2025 we will celebrate the revolutionary legacies of Afro-Caribbean and African American communities. The theme draws on the origins of the Carnival tradition in Trinidad and Tobago, where enslaved Africans, denied the right to celebrate their heritage, created secret festivities to mock their oppressors. This act of resistance and cultural assertion is central to the 2025 Carnival, honoring these legacies while connecting them to the broader struggle for freedom.

Masqueraders and revelers will represent the vibrant resistance of enslaved peoples and their cultural pride, inspired by the legacy and contributions to Massachusetts' revolutionary heritage. We will spotlight Afro-Caribbean and African American contributions to freedom. Join us and be part of our history!

About Carnival

Cambridge Carnival is a colorful celebration that is rooted in African traditions. Since the abolition of slavery in the U.S. and Caribbean, Carnival today has become a celebration of emancipation, freedom and expression.
